What Is IV Therapy?
IV therapy is the delivery of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients directly into the bloodstream through an intravenous drip, bypassing the digestive system entirely. Because nutrients reach your cells immediately at full concentration, patients often notice benefits — more energy, sharper focus, faster recovery — within an hour of treatment.
It's one of the most direct ways to correct nutrient deficiencies identified through Functional Lab Testing and support the body during illness, stress, or high physical demand.
IV Therapy in Calgary:
How It Works
At VeraVita, IV therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Dr. Jill Nazar, ND, uses functional lab testing to identify your specific deficiencies and health goals before formulating your IV. Whether you need a Personalized IV Therapy energy-boosting Myers' Cocktail, a high-dose NAD+ infusion, or an immune-support drip, every formula is built around your bloodwork, not a generic menu.
Who Can Benefit From
IV Therapy?
IV therapy in Calgary is popular among patients managing chronic fatigue, frequent illness, poor nutrient absorption, high stress, athletic recovery needs, or age-related decline in cellular energy. It's also frequently used as a complement to a broader Naturopathic Medicine treatment plan.
Is IV Therapy
Safe?
IV therapy is generally safe when administered by trained naturopathic doctors in a clinical setting, as it is at VeraVita. Before your first IV, our team reviews your health history — often alongside a Naturopathic Care consultation — to ensure the treatment is appropriate for you, particularly if you have chronic liver, heart, or kidney conditions.

Your IV Therapy Journey
To help ensure your IV treatment is safe and comfortable, please review the following instructions before, during, and after your appointment.
Before Your Treatment
- Eat a meal before your appointment. This can help maintain stable blood sugar levels during your treatment.
- Hydrate well. Drink at least 1 L (approximately 4 cups) of water before your appointment, unless you have been advised to restrict your fluid intake.
- First IV treatment: If this is your first IV treatment with us, please obtain a urine sample cup from our front desk and provide a urine sample. A urine dipstick may be performed as part of your initial assessment.
- Bring a snack. We recommend bringing a snack in case you need something to eat during or after your treatment. Protein bars may also be available for purchase at the clinic.
- Bring recent relevant bloodwork or other medical information that may be helpful for your practitioner.
- Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Avoid tight belts, scarves, shapewear, or other clothing that may restrict circulation or make access to your arm difficult.
- Avoid strenuous exercise before your appointment. Please allow yourself time to arrive and rest before your treatment, as physical activity can temporarily affect your blood pressure and other vital signs. If possible, use the elevator rather than taking the stairs immediately before your appointment.
- Tell your practitioner about your medications and supplements. Please advise us of all current prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, supplements, and any recent changes in dosage.
During Your Treatment
- Stay hydrated. Bring a water bottle with you. You may be advised to drink approximately 1-2 cups of water during your treatment. Water and tea are also available at the clinic.
- Keep your legs uncrossed during your treatment to help maintain comfortable circulation.
- Remain awake and responsive throughout your treatment so our team can monitor how you are feeling.
- You are welcome to bring a book, tablet, smartphone, or other quiet activity to enjoy during your treatment.
- Tell us immediately if you feel unwell. Notify your practitioner right away if you experience pain, discomfort, heart palpitations, headache, nausea, cramping, dizziness, difficulty breathing, or any other unusual symptoms. If you need immediate assistance, use the safety bell to alert our team.
- Keep the arm with the IV as still as possible. Avoid unnecessary movement of the arm with the IV line.
- Do not adjust the IV equipment. Do not change the drip rate, move the IV bag, or manipulate the IV tubing. Our clinical team will make any necessary adjustments.
After Your Treatment
- Continue to hydrate. Unless otherwise directed by your practitioner, drink approximately 2-4 additional glasses of water after your treatment.
- Eat a meal after your treatment to help maintain your energy and blood sugar levels.
- Monitor your IV insertion site. Contact the clinic if the area becomes increasingly hot, red, swollen, itchy, painful, or if you develop a rash or fever.
If You Have Concerns
- Please contact the clinic as soon as possible if you have concerns following your IV treatment.
- If you experience severe symptoms, significant difficulty breathing, chest pain, loss of consciousness, or another medical emergency, call 911 or seek emergency medical care immediately.
- For non-emergency health advice after clinic hours, you can contact Alberta Health Link at 811.
- If you are unsure whether a symptom is concerning, please seek medical advice rather than waiting for your next appointment.
